Workshops

 Workshops

As semester one drew to a close and holidays began, the winter Design Beginnings workshops in Sydney and Melbourne commenced. And what a success they were!

We were blown away by the creativity shown and potential of the 350 plus students who participated in the Interior Illustration, Fashion Illustration and Styling workshops over the two weeks.

Our brand new Sewing with Style workshop saw students learn the elements of sewing and came out at the end with a very cute skirt! (pictured)

Interior Dream

 Interior Dream

Here at Whitehouse we love to hear about our graduate’s success stories share them with you! Our latest news is from 2009 Interior Design graduate, Jessica Nohra (Interior Dream) and 2008 Fashion Design graduate Johanna Spasaro (A Tale to be Told)

After completing her Bachelor of Design and no more than two weeks after graduation, Jessica Nohra began her very first retail fit out project for up and coming retail franchise Exclusive Collectables. The new franchise will consist of a chain of 8 stores Australia wide, which Jessica was able to secure the contract for.

“I designed the retail fit out from conceptual design through to construction on my own” said Jessica “which is so exciting!”

In addition to this great achievement, Jess has also added Jewellery Company 5th Avenue to her line of sight. With eleven stores set to open Australia wide as well as three in New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo, we’re positive Jess is going to have a lasting international career. Congratulations and good luck Jess!

A Tale to be Told

 A Tale to be Told

Tale Told is a label created by 2008 Whitehouse Institute of Design graduate, Johanna Spasaro. It is a manifestation of youthful essence and quirky originality, capturing the hidden tale in us all. Johanna’s concepts are a mix of street, high day wear and evening pieces for the fruitfully fresh at heart. Where tomorrow is today and we are all stuck in an age of innocence.

Inspired by all things doll-like and playful, Johanna seeks for A-line silhouettes, layers, and fullness, creating cute and euphoric pieces for the young at heart. Silks, georgettes, cottons, linens, lace, trimmings, stripes and buttons are all examples of the sorts of treasures you may find in a Tale Told garment.

Designed and produced on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, taking inspiration from favourite designer Tsumori Chisato, Tale Told’s latest collection “I wonder, I wonder…With thy head in the clouds” hints on a similar design ethic and dreamlike concept.

Coming up to the one year mark of selling at Paddington Markets, Johanna has taken Tale Told a step further by being stocked in Melbourne’s Design a Space Retail Galleries and online at www.onelittlepiece.com.au

The Launching of a Tale Told’s next Tran-seasonal collection will be in the upcoming spring. This new collection is called “L.O.V.E. on the carousel”, & Johanna has incorporated menswear pieces to transform Tale Told into a unisex label.

The Tale of Johanna Spasaro will continue to be Told. If you would like to be delighted in playing dress ups with the nostalgic keepers of A Tale Told have a look at her website www.taletolddesigns.com.au and relish in the Spring of this lambing label.
