For the past 15 years, selected graduates from the Whitehouse Institute of Design have received a scholarship to study at the Accademia Italia in Florence, Italy. This year Bachelor of Design Graduates Natalie Foran and Kate Armstrong have each been awarded full scholarships to study a Masters workshop in Fashion Design in 2009. Two partial scholarships were also awarded to Bianca Pizem and Madelyn Blom. The students will relocate to Florence in 2009 and begin their studies at the Campus in Piazza Pitti – the heart of Italian fashion. Previous scholarship winners have gone on to take roles with some of the world’s renowned fashion and design houses.
On Saturday 6th December, Whitehouse students showcased collaborations from the 'Integrated Project' as part of The Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Contempo “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” themed end-of-year celebration. Contempo is a membership category of the Art Gallery of NSW for those who enjoy and support Sydney’s contemporary art scene.
First and second year students from specialist areas Fashion Design, Interior Design and Styling & Creative Direction worked together over the preceding week to produce spectacular installations for the main foyer of the Art Gallery of NSW. The student’s dedication and attention to detail were highlighted with the costumes and works being described by guests as the best they had seen in years. Whitehouse staff and students would like to thank the Art Gallery of NSW for the ongoing support of the Institute.

The John Henry Library is proud to be the first library in the world to catalogue The Fashion Design System: Pattern Engineering for the 21st Century by Kathleen M. Berry and Lois F. Hennes as well as being the first library in Australia to catalogue Emotional Trend: Psyche > Creativity > Beauty to Fashion co-edited by Pier Pietro Brunelli.
Jill Phillips, Whitehouse Program Coordinator Fashion - Technical, believes this resource will be particularly important for students as this system is based on the current body size and shape of women in Australia, allowing the students the best possible instruction to move into the professional world, either designing or producing clothes for the modern day woman.
Emotional Trend is an inspirational resource for the Styling and Creative Direction specialisation of the Bachelor of Design as it details how to interpret trends in design. Whitehouse was also lucky enough to welcome Emotional Trend co-editor Pietro Brunelli to the Institute as a guest lecturer.
Whitehouse Institute would like to congratulate graduating student Sam Gerich for securing a role as Junior Designer for Cue. Sam will be assisting head designer Veronika Maine. Sam was awarded Whitehouse Student of the Year in both 2007 and 2008. We wish her all the best for all future endeavours.
