general library information

Opening Hours

The College Library is open for students from 8:30am-1:30pm and 2:30pm-5pm daily. Students are able to use the library before and after school and during their break times without restriction.

Opening times may alter with short notice, all changes will be posted on the library news and events board at the library door.

Students are free to use the library during school hours as long as the librarian is present or a supervising member of staff.

Library Rules

  • Strictly no cutting, painting, pasting, pattern making or other studio design work allowed in the library.
  • Strictly no food/drinks/coffee etc in the library.
  • Bags are to be left on the shelves provided outside the library security gates.
  • Please keep your valuables with you at all times.
  • Consider others and switch off/silence your mobile phone when in the library. 

Late Fees

  • Books are due back to the library by 5pm on the due date.
  • Students will be notified of overdue items by email.
  • Overdue loans will be charged at $1 per day.
  • Students with late fees of $5 or less may still borrow from the library.
  • Once late fees accrue to $6 or more students will not be allowed to borrow from the library untill their late fees are paid in full.
  • Late fees will be paid to the bursar where a receipt will be issued.
  • The payment receipt must be presented to library staff in order to have late fees erased from the borrower record. 

Lost/Missing Books

  • A minimum lost fee of $50 will be charged per book.
  • The borrower may be required to cover the actual replacement cost of a lost item. 

Photocopying

  • Photocopy cards can be bought from the librarian. There are $5, $10 and $20 cards available
  • Photocopy machines only accept photocopy cards for payment
  • $0.20 per A4 black & white copy
  • $0.40 per A3 black & white copy
  • $1.20 per A4 colour copy
  • $2.40 per A3 colour copy

PC Use

  • PCs in the library are for research/library use only

Printing

  • The cost of printing from the computers is the same as photocopying
  • Print outs from the PC lab will print out from the photocopy machine
  • Students require a photocopy card in order to print. It must be inserted into the machine near the Pharos computer, and the print job released on the Pharos computer, before their job will print. 

Whitehouse Institute of Design Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism is defined as using another person’s work without specific acknowledgement.

The phrase “using another person’s work” includes:

  • directly copying any part of another person's work;
  • paraphrasing the work of another person;
  • summarising the work of another person;
  • using or developing an idea or theme from another person's work;
  • results obtained from another persons work;
  • in the case of collaborative projects, falsely representing individual contributions of the collaborating students where such distinction is necessary.

If a student is found guilty of plagiarism, it is likely that he/she will fail the assignment or module. Please keep this in mind when researching and presenting work.
