TUITION FEE PAYMENT OPTIONS

FEE-HELP
Whitehouse Institute of Design, Australia has been approved by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) to offer the Commonwealth Government FEE-HELP loan to assist with part or all of eligible students' tuition fees, which are paid directly to Whitehouse.

Students may borrow up to the amount of tuition being charged by the provider for the unit(s) of study the student undertakes; however there is a limit to how much a student can borrow over a lifetime. In 2010 the maximum loan amount is $85,062.

A 20 per cent loan fee applies to FEE-HELP loans for undergraduate courses; this fee does not count towards the FEE-HELP limit. FEE-HELP does not cover any additional expenses such as course materials or living expenses. There is no interest applied to the FEE-HELP debt, however it is indexed annually by the ATO to maintain its real value by adjusting it in line with changes in the cost of living.

Eligibility
To be eligible the student must be an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa whilst remaining a resident in Australia for the duration of studies. Holders of permanent or temporary resident visas or New Zealand citizens are not eligible for FEE-HELP assistance.

When is a FEE-HELP debt incurred?
You incur a FEE-HELP debt immediately after the census date for the semester of study for which you received FEE-HELP assistance. If you have requested a FEE-HELP loan, but change your mind about studying, you must either cancel your Request for FEE-HELP assistance form or withdraw your enrolment in writing on or before the census date or you will incur a debt.

For more information about FEE-HELP, please read the FEE-HELP Information Booklet available from Whitehouse or visit the Australian Government Going to Uni website www.goingtouni.gov.au

This agreement means there is an obligation on the student's behalf to pay the published program fees throughout the student's enrolment.

  • If you have requested FEE-HELP assistance, you must cancel your request for FEE-HELP assistance in writing on or before census date or you will incur a debt to the ATO

The Whitehouse Institute may arrange for another course, or part of a course, to be provided to students at no extra cost to the student as an alternative to refunding course fees. Where the student agrees to this arrangement, the Whitehouse Institute will not be liable to refund the money owed for the original enrolment

This policy does not remove your right to take further action under the consumer protection laws of Australia or to pursue other legal remedies.

EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES:
A written request for withdrawal due to exceptional circumstances may be accepted as grounds for a total or partial refund or re-credit of FEE-HELP debt. This is subject to the submission of application for refund or re-credit of FEE-HELP debt and provision of acceptable documentary evidence in support of their claim. Exceptional circumstances may include:

  • Death of the student or close family member (parent, guardian, sibling, spouse, child)
  • Partial or total incapacitation
  • Medical or personal circumstances
  • Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) refusing to grant a student visa for study in Australia

Whitehouse Institute will consider whether to accept the claim provided it is satisfied that the exceptional circumstances applied to the student:

  • were such they made it impractical for the student to complete the course or unit(s) of study requirements.
