1994 - Kate Medved

Kate Medved graduated from Whitehouse Institute of Design in 1994 with an associate Diploma in Fashion Design. Since then, she has completed a Master of Design at UTS, worked in several fashion companies and started teaching herself.After Kate graduated from Whitehouse Institute of Design, she started working at Trent Nathan Fashion House, a Melbourne based company where she worked in the dispatch and production department before moving into the design room. She worked in the company for a year before pursuing other interests. Kate did a 2 month stint doing retail merchandising for a music chain store prior to taking up a teaching position at Whitehouse.

Kate started at Whitehouse promoting the school at career markets and doing high school drawing workshops before being moved into the mainstream fashion course on campus. Kate’s professional portfolio expanded at Whitehouse to include teaching (design and computer graphics), graphic design (brochures and advertising for magazines and newspapers), web design (web updates to the web site).

With her Master of Design, she retrained as a graphic designer and started teaching at Enmore Design Centre as a graphic design teacher. She did this part-time, while starting up her own company Kata Design, a freelance design company which she still has. Kata Design is primarily a graphic and web design but she also does customized fashion design for clients as well as colour consultancy occasionally with Echo 11, an interior design company.Kate is back to teaching part-time at Whitehouse Institute of Design as Head of Design Computing.Kate has always wanted to have her own business and be a designer. Now, with her freelance design company, she has attained both those goals.With her work, anything and everything can inspire Kate to design. She keeps stimulated through travel, visiting galleries and exhibitions, researching and keeping alight with things happening globally.
